Evaluation and drivers of global low-carbon economies based on satellite data

Abstract Global warming is one of the largest challenges humankind facing in this century, and how to achieve low-carbon economy has become most attractive topics global concern. However, evaluations are insufficient due limited methodologies data availability. In study, satellite (i.e., night-time light net primary production) were employed estimate economic output (neo), ratio neo GDP (reo), which can be used assess quantity quality worldwide economies. Based on panel vector autoregression (pvar) analysis, we further discussed drivers reo climate change mitigation towards a better society. The results show that: (1) only France United Kingdom ranked within top 10 terms 2019, implying that they successful increasing both development; (2) pvar analysis presented increase granger-caused growth, production increment greatly helped raise reo; (3) raising CO 2 abatement policy stringency play major role improving low carbon countries with poor quality, but it cannot significantly promote groups high reo. Additionally, study also provided basic data, such as our calibrated 1 × km gridded during 1992–2019 for research regarding other sustainable development issues.
